Introduction to the Philosophers provides an opportunity to be introduced to the thought of a particular philosopher in a single evening. Each meeting focuses on the ideas of a different philosopher. In these meetings, the instructor speaks for approximately 30-40 minutes, presenting the central ideas of the philosopher. These remarks are then followed by an open discussion, similar to the discussions in the 8 week classes we hold. Participants sign up for one meeting at a time. These meetings will be scheduled periodically throughout the year. Some attempt will be made to feature philosophers who have not come up as often as others in the 8 week classes. For those who already might have had some exposure to the philosopher being discussed, these evenings are also an opportunity to learn more about him or her, since we will be able to present more of his or her ideas than we often are able to in the discussion class setting.
